Sours in a bottle…after a year…rarely do the beer justice if they’ve been aged or blended with fruits, I’ve found. I’m probably wrong.
Montmaretto would have been 1 year old on Friday. This sour from Wicked Weed claims cherries and almonds. A year ago the almonds were there, but they’ve since packet up and left town. Sour cherries are the overriding prescience now. It’s not a bad thing. A year ago this was wonderfully complex and now it’s a really nice bottle conditioned Kriek.
It’s very effervescent with a quick dissipating head. A clear ruby with persistent bubbling even in a clean glass.
Smells of cherries and shortbread.
It is was great fresh and although lacking dimension after a year still a refreshingly light beer.
