Beer #3637.1: Fuller’s London Pride

I really like London. Been there thrice, going back next fall. One thing I’ve not really done well is appreciate the London pub. I’m not sure it’s anything an outsider/tourist can really get into with the limited time spent in the city, but I’ll give it shot next time I’m there.

Tonight’s beer is a BJCP example of a best bitter.

I’m really happy with my tasting on this. I really like bitters so I shouldn’t get to bit of a head, but I pretty much nailed the description prior to reading the summary in the style guidelines.

Smells of caramel, toffee, and a slight grape. Very thin, almost nonexistent head but a brilliant copper color.

Taste of toast, biscuit, caramel, balanced with an assertive bitterness at the end. The bitterness is welcome to balance the almost cloying sweet.

Great beer of one of my preferred styles.

4/5
